India’s Parliament halted on sugar cane pricing protest
NEW DELHI (Commodity Online): India’s both Parliament Houses proceedings have been stalled Friday due the protest from the opposition parties over the new sugar cane pricing policy.
Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned soon after assembly proceedings stared. Today is the second consecutive day that the opposition protesting in the Parliament, declaring solidarity to the sugar cane farmers who are agitating outside the House.
Farmers in the second largest sugar-producing state, Uttar Pradesh, are demanding higher sugar cane prices in line with a jump in the local rates of refined sugar.
In the House, opposition members shouted slogans for the withdrawal of the Order, which fixes a uniform Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) which would put the burden on states if they choose to pay more than FRP to farmers.
