India’s rice, cane output likely to revive on heavy rain
NEW DELHI (Commodity Online): India’s rice and sugar cane production, which was considered a fall due to delayed monsoon, is expected to revive with heavy rainfall within four to five days, according to Meteorological Department.
IMD said on its website that a fairly widespread to heavy rainfall is expected during the next four to five days because of influence of the upper air cyclonic circulation that persisted over Northern regions of the country.
Weak monsoon rains have sparked concerns about a fall in agricultural output and an increase in farm product prices. Prior to these showers, rice output from the northern states of Punjab and Haryana, the nation’s biggest growers, was expected to fall by 10%-15%, according to industry estimates.
