MUMBAI (Commodity Online): With the delayed monsoon rains in India, the acreage of soybean planted is increased while the yield is expected to stay at 97.24 lakh tonnes, down as compared to previous year, SOPA said.

According to Soybean Processors Association (SOPA), the country’s soybean production is likely to fall to 97.24 lakh tonnes in 2009-10 season from the 108.17 lakh tonnes in the last season. The yield may be fallen because of late rain, it added.

SOPA said that due to the delayed monsoon rains despite the marginal increase in the soybean acreage of 96.70 lakh hectare as compared to 96.24 lakh hectares last season, the production is estimated to be 1006 kg per hectare against 1124 kg in the last season.
