India’s sunflower imports touch 3, 53,067 tonnes

MUMBAI: India’s sunflower imports have been touched 3, 53,067 tonnes so far and is likely to import another 1,00,000 metric tonnes in the next six months, industrial think tank, Solvent Extractors’ Association of India.
The country expected to import only 1,00,000 tonnes in the next six months and total imports of sunflower oil are likely to be about 4,50,000 tonnes, said B.V. Mehta, executive director of the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India.

India imported 3, 53,067 tons of sunflower oil in the November-April period. The country imported only 26,500 tons in 2007-08. The edible oil marketing year runs from November to October.
