Kind, cultured, a giant in the world of mining and exploration is how friends of David Coffin are remembering him. David, a long-time contributor to Kitco.com and the co-founder of the newsletter, The Hard Rock Analyst, passed away suddenly last Thursday.
The death came as a shock to the industry. David was a well respected and highly regarded figurein the mining and metals sector for the past 30 years. David and his brother Eric, provided timely and relevant investment coverage of projects around the world through their newsletter, The Hard Rock Analyst.
Joe Martin, founder of the Cambridge House International shows where David was repeatedly a speaker said in a letter, “Our industry has lost one of its real treasures.”
Some other friends from the metals industry took a moment to remember the kind of man he was.
"I was extremely saddened by the news of the untimely passing of David," said Jon Nadler, Senior Metals Analyst at Kitco Metals. "On the many occasions I had to share ideas with him at various industry events, I found him to be a consummate professional, a very knowledgeable source of true facts and figures, a kind and gentle man, and a welcome breath of fresh air in an otherwise testosterone-laden group that often places hype above integrity."
"David was one of the few newsletter writers/analysts who actually understood the economic value of rock in the ground," Mickey Fulp, the Mercenary Geologist said. "He was one of the good guys in our business and will be sorely missed."
"David was an important contributor for Kitco.com," said John Dourekas, Media Director at Kitco Metals. "His unique insights and passion for the metals and mining industry will be greatly missed."
"Dave Coffin, a friend and fellow newsletter writer passed away this week," Brent Cook of the Exploration Insights Newsletter wrote this week. "Dave was one of the good guys, and had a special knack for understanding the Canadian junior market that I listened to and admired. He will be missed."
“David was one of my favorite people in our business," said Al Korelin of The Korelin Economics Report. "He and I shared many interesting thoughts regarding investing and politics. He was a welcome guest on The Korelin Economics Report many times over the past ten or more years.”
"David was diligent, hard-working, and scrupulously honest," said Adrain Day, President of Adrian Day asset Management. "If not overtly gregarious, he was always friendly and helpful, with never a bad work to say about people. He will be missed, both on a personal level, and professionally.
In an open letter, David’s brother Eric stated that HRA Advisories will be on hiatus for two to three weeks as the family mourns during this trying time.
