NEW DELHI (Commodity Online): The private companies engaged in producing genetically modified (GM) seeds, have to spend more on educating the people about the GM technology and making them aware of its finer significances rather then spending on public relation activities, pointed out the eminent farm scientist M S Swaminathan.
According to Swaminathan, future of biotechnology will depend upon the ability to convince the people about how this science can provide a new dimension to agriculture, said during inaugural address at a conference on agri biotechnology, reported Press trust of India (PTI).
While, according to M F Farooqui, Chairperson, Genetic Engineering Approval Committee (GEAC) and Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Forests, that companies also need to convince the political leaders of the country about the importance of GM technology as Chief Ministers of various states say they do not want to allow the testing of this technology in their states.
