Int’l E&P majors to explore Shale gas in Asia
LONDON/NEW DELHI (Commodity Online): With President Obama’s upcoming visit to Mumbai expected to yield a Shale gas co-operation contract with India, major US E&P companies have begun to look towards Asia as the next major shale gas business opportunity.
In response to this, major E&P companies from across the US are beginning to source partners from across Asia and are meeting with the major players from India, China and Indonesia in February next year.
Shale Gas Asia takes the form of a major summit which will also serve as a forum for government regulators from India, China, Indonesia and the U.S.A. to explain how they will establish the regulatory framework for supporting the commercialization of shale gas in Asia.
The next few months will be a critical time for shale gas development in Asia as Oil Minister Murli Deora hopes to reach an official international agreement shortly, "There have been some discussions... we hope to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) during US President's visit" which will take place at the beginning of November.
Keynote speakers travelling from the US includes, Scott Sheffield, CEO of leading US Shale Gas producer Pioneer Natural Resources; Al Holcomb, Vice President of Strategic Planning for Lewis Energy Group; Lindell Bridges, Senior Vice President of Geosciences, EQT Corporation; Chris Faulker, CEO of Breitling Oil.
The Gas Presenters from Asia includes, Zhiliang, Vice President E & D Research, Sinopec (China); P.K. Bhowmick, Executive Director K.D.M.I.P.E, ONGC (India); Harmen Rashid, Senior Manager of Petroleum Geoscience, PT Medco E&P Indonesia (Indonesia) The Ministry of Land and Resources, Indonesia; Directorate of Hydrocarbons, India; the Indonesian Geological Survey and the US department of state will also be overseeing proceedings.
The summit aims to combine the local expertise of Asian E&P companies with the technical experience of the US shale gas production specialists to maximize the commercial viability of extracting shale gas in Asian territories.
The summit is to take place on the 23-24 February at the Sheraton New Delhi.
