MUMBAI: After the success story of Alfonso, another Indian mangoe, Kesar, is finding favour with foreign importers especially with Japanese businesspersons.

While importers from Europe, America and Gulf countries have been under the spell of the Alphanso from coastal Konkan, a Japanese firm has evinced keen interest in the relatively less-known Kesar variety.

The new interest has evoked after the Maharashtra State Marketing Board, engaged in promotion of horticulture and floriculture produce, sent a trial consignment.

The Board, which identifies prospective buyers in international market for growers in Maharashtra, has fixed an export price of Rs 170 for one kg of Kesar exclusive of parceling, airfreight and local transport expenses.

In addition, to boost mango exports further the Board is to hold a meeting with American businesspersons in Mumbai next month.Meanwhile, another transaction in floricultural export too, is in the offing with as many as 10,000 blooms of carnations and gladiolus expected to be delivered to a firm in Dubai shortly, sources said.

The freshness of the delivered product is guaranteed to the satisfaction of the importers in Dubai as the travel time is just three hours. The farmers too are happy because of the international price they would get for the perishables.
