Market reverts previous day loss, Sensex gain 85 points

MUMBAI (Commodityonline): Indian bourses opened flat amid strong global cues. Indices extended gain in opening session led by IT and Oil & Gas stocks. Metals stock also witnessed gain led by short covering in opening session. On the other hand Pharma stocks witnessed selling pressure in opening session.

Markets remained range bound in afternoon session. NSE Nifty index howered arround 5400 most of the day. Strong European cues helped indices to sustain gain. Sharp volatility witnessed in afternoon session. However, indices ended with gain in closing session.

Markets breadth remained positive back of broad base rally. Both Midcap and Smallcap indices closed with gain of 1.45% and 0.89% respectively. Benchmark indices recoup yesterday's loss.

BSE Sensex closed at 17707.32 with the gain of 84.87 points and at NSE Nifty closed at 5368.15 with the loss of 33 points at the end of the day. BSE MIDCAP index closed at 6161.39 with the loss of 88.28 points and BSE SMALLCAP index closed at 6812.15 with the gain of 60.17 points.

In percentage terms key gainers were Reliance Infrastructure Ltd (NSE: RELINFRA), Hindalco Industries Ltd (NSE: HINDALCO) and Jaiprakash Associates Ltd (NSE: JPASSOCIAT) while key losers were Bharti Airtel Ltd (NSE: BHARTIARTL), ICICI Bank Ltd (NSE: ICICIBANK) and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NSE: ONGC).

On sectoral front almost all the sectoral indices closed in green barring Pharma and Banking & Finacial sector closed marginally in red. Major buying was seen in Realty, IT, Metal, Oil & Gas and Capital Goods sectors. Market breadth on BSE remained positive were 1724 advances against 1186 declines stocks.

From the perspective of weight in Nifty key gainers were Reliance Industries Ltd (NSE: RELIANCE), Infosys Ltd (NSE: INFY) and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NSE: HDFC) while key losers were Bharti Airtel Ltd (NSE: BHARTIARTL), ICICI Bank Ltd (NSE: ICICIBANK) and ITC Ltd (NSE: ITC).
