Metal stocks in blue: Jai corp, Tata Steel zoom

MUMBAI (Commodity Online): Metals major, Tata Steel Ltd (BOM: 500470), Jai Corp Ltd (BOM: 512237) and Sesa Goa Ltd (BOM: 500295) led the sectoral BSE Metals index in green.

The sectoral index was up by close to 3% at 14606 points, while benchmark Sensex was trading at 16271 points up over 200 points.

The upbeat mood was seen in the metals stocks as Sesa Goa surged 3.5% to 308, Guj NRE Coke Ltd gained 4.3% at 61.35 and Tata Steel trading at Rs.497.6 up by 2.7% in the morning trading session today.

Jai Corp Ltd zoomed to Rs.180.5 in the initial trading hour on the BSE today. The stock was locked at the gain of 9.9%.

Steel major, Tata Steel recorded higher steel sales from the company's Indian operations, which rose 38% to 462,000 tonnes in October 2009 over October 2008.

The announcement was made during trading hours today, 6 November 2009. World's sixth largest steel maker by capacity has achieved saleable steel production rose by 27% to 570,000 tonnes and crude steel production gained 22% to 599,000 tonnes in October 2009 over October 2008.

The Indian operations contribute about a quarter of the group's total annual global capacity of 30 million tonnes, which includes Corus, Europe's second-largest steelmaker.
