NEWDELHI (Commodity Online): After two weeks of sluggishness, Monsoon has started showing mercy towards the agri-areas in India. South western Monsoon is 7% above the normal fall this week compared with previous two weeks and would continue for next week too, says the weather officials.
The monsoon has been average for tea, coffee, and soya bean, rubber areas in the northeast and central India.
In the start of July, the fall was 25% below and was 19% below normal last week. The low fall during the 1st half of the July over the rice producing areas in East has weakened its output.
Monsoon irrigates more than 60% of India, the second largest rice producer after China.
Last year by July half the fall was 17% below the normal and it regained during four month season and ended up normal.
“Improvement in rainfall over the northwest region will help raise coverage under cotton and pulses,” A.K. Singh, deputy director general, Indian Council of Agricultural Research was quoted by Reuters as saying.
If the present situation of rain is maintained then, summer harvest would be good and which in turn can help to settle down food inflation.
