NEW DELHI (Commodity Online): India is witnessing a modest monsoon with improved showering across the country and the precipitation rose by 2% so far this month in long term average, said national weather observer.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), improved monsoon activity may bring down India’s seasonal rainfall deficit rate by 1-2% by the end of July. The country received 258.7 millimeters of rain in July as against the normal of 254.8 mm, said the IMD.
Monsoon rains are crucial for India, where about more that 60% of farm lands are rain fed. Farmers are happy with the current monsoon condition as crops sowing are progressing with the advanced monsoon.
IMD forecasted that the monsoon is expected to advance further in the next two three days due to the formation of lower pressure at the Bay of Bengal.
During the June 1-July 27 period, rains in the southern states were 11% above average, data from the weather bureau showed.
Rains were just 3% below average in the northwest, while the shortfall in central India was only 1%. But rainfall in the eastern and northeastern regions was 22% below average.
Southwest monsoon was vigorous over Saurashtra & Kutch and active over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, East Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, Konkan & Goa and South Interior Karnataka during past 24 hours.
Significant amounts of rainfall (1 cm or more) during past 24 hours ending at 0830 hours IST are enclosed.
Fairly widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over west coast, western Himalayan region, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and central & northeast India.
Fairly Widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over Gujarat and Rajasthan during next 24 hours and decrease thereafter.
Fairly Widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and Orissa and scattered over interior Karnataka during next 24 hours and increase thereafter.
Fairly Widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over plains of northwest India, outside Rajasthan, during next 48 hours and decrease thereafter. However it will continue over Utter Pradesh after 48 hours.
Scattered rain/thundershowers would occur over remaining parts of east India.
Isolated heavy rainfall would occur over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Orissa, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Konkan & Goa and coastal Karnataka during next 48 hours.
