BANGALORE (Commodity Online): MTR foods, the leaders in processed foods has started exploring Indian snacks market with anytime eats and mainly concentrating in South India and also plans to enter in to the jams and ketchup sector.
Presently, the Indian snack market is dominated by Haldiram's , Hindustan Lever, ITC among others.
The company had done a comprehensive survey in south India to find out the snaking needs and with that keepin in mind, they have launched 10 different varieties of snacks covering chakli, spinach chakli, nippattu, kodubale, kharaboondi, cornflakes mixture, avalakki mixture, thick sev and ompudi.
Accordiong to the survey, most of the people prefer branded snacks as they are unsure of the unbranded options due to hygiene standards.
“Snacks is an important category in India. However, the south Indian snacks market has not been explored to its fullest potential. Hence we decided to foray into this domain,” said Sanjay Sharma, CEO & MD, MTR Foods Pvt. Ltd, in press Conference
MTR Foods has invested around Rs 3 crore to build a new plant in the existing manufacturing unit located at Bommasandara Industrial Area, Bangalore.
The company has a good packing formats for example the products like chakli, butter chakli, spinach chakli, nippattu and kodubale are easily damagable and are made available in tray packs. Attractive graphics make the pack outstanding in the shops tempting the consumers to buy.
The company also plans to enter in to the jams and ketchup sector through promising acquisitions.
“Currently snacking is not limited to just tea time but is customary accompaniment during meals and an indispensable option during festivities. This opens the opportunity for the existing players in the space to grow. We are also looking to reverse the consumers from the unorganised snacking space to the high quality and fresh snack segment where MTR could offer a platter,” said Vikaram Sabherwal, vice president of Marketing, MTR Foods.
