NAV develops mango kernall oil extracting method
AHMEDABAD (Commodity Online): India’s Navasari Agriculture University has developed solvent extraction methodology for extracting oil from mango kernel industrially, said NAU Research Director H C Pathak.
Mango kernall oil, mainly used in cosmetics, can be extracted through solvent extraction methodology, he said. The kernel flakes or powder is mixed with the solvent, then heated and distilled to obtain oil, he explained.
An average mango kernel contains about 8-15 per cent extract potential. Up to 3-12 per cent of mango kernel oil is generally used to manufacture mango-based lotions, creams, balms, soaps and hair conditioners, industry officials said.
