No respite, onion prices may to come down
Commodity Online NEW DELHI: The exorbitant onion prices may not come down soon, if indications from the market are anything to go by.
According to market experts, there is unlikely to be any sharp fall in onion prices despite positive indications of a good crop.
Onion production in kharif 2007 is likely to be around 17 lakh tonne, up 29%.
The rise in production is expected after the acreage under onion cultivation went up 28% to 1.28 lakh hectare from 1,00,000 hectare in 2006.
There may be 3-5% damage to the crop this season due to untimely rains in some parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka last month.
It estimates onion production in Maharashtra and Rajasthan will be up 48% and 15%, respectively.
