NTPC to boost gas based electricity generation
NEW DELHI (Commodity Online): India’s largest power company, NTPC is planning to boost its capacity to generate electricity from gas to 8,000 MV by 2017 from existing 3,955-MW, said a company official on Monday.
It would be able to ramp up its existing 3,955-MW electricity generation capacity from gas once the Petroleum Ministry assures supply of the fuel from all sources, including Reliance Industries’ KG-D6 fields.
NTPC expressed the hope that it would get the assurance from the Petroleum Ministry with six months. Last month, the company signed an agreement to buy additional 1.2 million cubic meters per day of gas from Reliance Industries’ eastern offshore KG-D6 fields at the Government-approved price of $4.2 per mmBtu.
The company is mulling mega expansion of its functional gas-based stations in the country.
