NTPC to set up 1000 MW thermal plant in Guj
AHMEDABAD (Commodity Online): The public sector power major, NTPC Ltd (BOM:532555) is considering to set up a 1000 MW thermal power station at Khambhat in Gujarat. The project will attract an investment of about Rs.5000 crore.
The union minister of state for power, Bharatsinh Solanki today mentioned that the centre is considering setting up a thermal power station at Khambhat and the state government is also said to have responded positively for the development. The company will sign a separate MoU for the project soon, the minister informed.
Solanki said that NTPC would also set up projects for production of 500 MW from renewable energy at an investment of Rs.4000 crore. The company has signed an MoU with Gujarat Power Corporation Ltd (GPCL) on uindertaking 500 MW solar and wind power projects. The move has come as an encouragement to the renewable power sector in state.

As per the agreement, NTPC will fund the projects, while GPCL will assist in identifying suitable location, clearances from the state government agencies and power evacuation.
The minister also stated that the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) would also be setting up a 6,000 MW atomic power station in Bhavnagar district of the state. Additionally Gujarat may also bag the second ultra mega power project (UMPP) with the location expected to be finalised soon,' he added. The first 4,000 MW UMPP being set up at Mundra in Gujarat has gone to the Tatas.
The state government has allocated 50 MW solar capacity generation to NTPC, which would invest Rs.500 crore in the next 30 months at the project site located at Morwada in Banaskantha district, where land has been allotted.
