AIZWAL (Commodity Online): The hunt for new gas reserves by the State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) has begun in Mizoram.
"After two decades, the ONGC has recently started exploration of gas at Meidum village in Kolasib district in north-western Mizoram," said an ONGC spokesman quoted by IANS as saying.
"The exploratory well, around 130 km north of Aizawl, is in close proximity to known hydrocarbon provinces. The prospective locations comprise of over 4,000 square km in north-western part of the state," he added.
ONGC is highly ambitious about the exploration as it is taking place after seven years of investigation and the company is expecting of finding around 170 million metric tons of untapped crude reserves.
The company has found huge oil and gas in Assam and Tripura through intense drilling and exploration.
