LONDON (Commodity Online): Peru's mining ministry announced that copper production rose 6% y/y in December to 122.6Kt.
Overall, copper production for 2011, however, fell 1% y/y to 1.2Mt. The same figures were released by the Mexican government for November, with copper production doubling y/y to 37.8Kt during the month.
The restart and subsequent ramp-up of the Cananea copper mine, which had previously been impacted by close to three years of labour disputes, was the key driver of this significant y/y increase.
