POSCO to launch steel project in Orissa by 2008
Commodity Online NEW DELHI: South Korean steelmaker POSCO said on Friday that the company will begin the 12 million-tonnes-capacity steel plant project in Orissa by April 2008.
POSCO Chief Executive Officerr Lee Ku-taek said that April 1, 2008 is the 40th anniversary of the company. “By then we will have ground-breaking for the plant in India', Lee said.
Lee met Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday.
The world’s third largest steel maker plans to start the construction without displacing people from its 12 mtpa greenfield steel unit site near Paradip.
Before displacing people from the project site, the company would ensure their rehabilitation, according to the South Koran firm.
