Quality seed output jumps to 8.55 lakh quintals

NEW DELHI : Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) on Tuesday said quality seed production in the country has increased three times through its project 'Seed Production in Agricultural Crops and Fisheries’.
In a release issued here the ICAR said quality seed production has increased from 2.92 lakh quintals to 8.55 lakh quintals
Tissue culture plantlets enhanced by 5.6 times during 2007-08, mushroom spawn production grown by 138 times annually and fry/spawn/fingerling production rose by 10.6 times, said the release.
The project, launched during X Five Year Plan for 2005-06 and 2006-07 has made significant impact on national seed production scenario in last three years.
