MOSCOW (Commodity Online): Crude oil output from Russia gained 0.4% in January 2012 to post the highest output level in the post-soviet era. Russia is the largest crude oil producer in the world.
Output touched 10.36 million barrels per day (mbpd) in Jan 2012, up from 10.32 mbpd in Dec 2011, data released by the Energy Ministry showed. January exports rose to 5.29 mbpd, up 1.2% from Dec 2011.
January natural gas production rose marginally to 2.04 billion cubic metres (bcm) from 2.03 bcm in December.
The high levels of production kept Russia the top crude oil producer in the world with Saudi Arabia coming a close second after pumping 9.75 mbpd in January.
