Sterlite rises on BSE as copper gains momentum
Commodity OnlineMUMBAI: Copper stocks follow a higher trend in the copper futures as leading copper miners recorded gains on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) today.
The sectoral BSE Metals index rose by over 2.5% to 11693 points. Copper stocks including Sterlite Industries Ltd and Hindalco Industries Ltd surged during the afternoon trading session on the BSE, while Hindustan Copper Ltd recorded a fall in the stock price.
Sterlite Industries Ltd surged to Rs.682 with gains of over 4% during the afternoon trading session, while Hindalco Industries Ltd rose over 2% to Rs.92.95.
Meanwhile, copper prices too remained firm on the commexes, tracking overseas gains and growing hopes of recovery in the global economy. Copper demand is reported to have improved from countries like China and India.
Copper prices traded higher at Rs.248.5 per kg for MCX June contract, while in the international spot market, the metal prices surged to USD 5234 per MT in the backdrop of rising metal demand.
