Surya Roshni launches India’s first T5 tube light
KOLKATTA (Commodity Online): Surya Roshni has become the first company in India to launch the production of next generation of Energy Saving Lights (ESL)-the T5 tube light.
The T5 tube light is technologically advanced to bring about increased saving by 85% in electricity consumption, resulting in saving of Rs. 600 on power bills per tube per year.

These slim looking T8 (36W) fluorescent tube lights with its three times longer & 15000 hours life would soon displace the conventional tube lights with ISI/BIS marking that have low life of 5000 hours and consume five times more energy . Some of its special features are Lower Power Bills (It saves Rs. 500 against an ordinary GLS bulb), better light quality, better comfort, longer life, higher lux levelsand better visibility. It reduces glare and has very soothing effect on the eyes. I am confident that our other new products will also receive similar recognition. ”

Advantages• The T5 ESL boasts of a life span of 15 years or 15,000 hours (15000 hours, based on 3.3 hours usage per day with electronic ballast).
•Surya has employed the world’s finest Triband Phosphorous Fluorescent powder, from Japan that gives highest lumen (light) output for this product.
•It works at a voltage as low as 140 V and can withstand upto 280 V of voltage.

Agarwal said “India has been facing a deficit in power generation, with demand far exceeding supply. We have undertaken a drive to educate retailers across the country in a bid to ensure that they can act as knowledge centres for customers in their respective areas. We had deputed 150 people to run the education programme and the entire activity was completed over a period of two months. The overall cost to us of these energy saving campaigns would be approx. Rs.10 crores.”
Surya Roshni currently commands a share of more than 25% the Indian market. The company clocked a turnover close to Rs.1750 crores for the year ended March 2009. Surya has undertaken several expansion plans in the near future and making investments of more than Rs.550 crores.
The company has projected a turnover of more than Rs. 2000 crores in current financial year (i.e. 2009-10) and Rs. 5000 crores for the financial year 2011-12 after all the expansions are in place. More than 6000 new jobs will be generated due to these expansions.
Apart from these, the company is setting up a spiral welded and steel pipe plant for oil and gas sector in Anjar taluk of Kutch district with an initial investment of Rs 200 crore and plans to invest another Rs 200 crore on its proposed expansion. The plant, being set up by Surya Global Steel Tubes Ltd, would have a capacity of two lakh tonnes per annum of spiral welded steel pipes and one lakh tonnes of Electric-Resistant Welding (ERW) pipes with projected turnover of Rs 2,000 crore annually, including 80 per cent of the products meant for exports.
