Suzlon to set up 30MW wind farm for Altrade Group

MUMBAI/PUNE (Commodity Online): India’s largest and world’s leading wind turbine maker, Suzlon Energy Limited (SEL) (BOM:5322667) today informed that the company has bagged a latest 30 MW order from Altrade Group through its two group companies Tarini Minerals Private Limited and M/S Indrani Patnaik.

Suzlon will set up, operate and maintain the project to be installed at wind farms in the Jaisalmer and Jodhpur districts of Rajasthan, the company stated in a statement today adding that the project will comprise of 20 units of Suzlon’s S82 1.5 MW wind turbine generators (WTG) and will be commissioned by January 2011.

Ashok D’Sa, President, South Asia and Middle East - Suzlon Energy Limited, said, “We acknowledge the confidence that Altrade group has placed in Suzlon’s expertise and capabilities in delivering a sustainable and profitable wind power solution. We are happy to contribute to the Group’s green initiative and help them achieve their sustainability goals.”

Orissa-based Altrade Group focuses primarily on the iron ore mining industry and is further diversifying into the real estate and hospitality sectors. This project is the Group’s maiden venture into wind energy, and once completed will generate enough electricity to power over 6,000 households.

The Group also has plans to register the projects under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). The project will extend Suzlon’s leadership of the Rajasthan wind market taking the total installed base to over 700 MW.

Suzlon stocks traded with loss of over 2.4% in the morning trades today. The stock had witnessed increased buoyancy on Thursday, posting sharp gains.
