NEW DELHI: Tata Motors have gone a step beyond producing buses, a business that can only sustain if it can sell the product. So it has bagged a contract worth Rs.22 billion (Rs.2,200 crore) from the Delhi Transport Corp (DTC) to supply 1,625 low-floor buses and maintain them for 12 years.

The contract comprises about Rs.9 billion for the supply of buses and Rs.13 billion for their 12-year maintenance, Tata Motors said in a statement.

This is the second time that Tata Motors has won a contract from the DTC.

“The first such order by the DTC in 2007 for 650 such buses was won by Tata Motors, and the company fulfilled the order in batches, as per schedule, in 2008,” the statement said.

”The new ultra low-floor buses make entry and exit extremely convenient, with passengers almost walking into them, rather than climbing,” it added.
