Thai natural rubber production up by 5% for 2012

BANGKOK (Commodity Online): The natural rubber production in Thailand is expected to be higher by 5% to around 3.15 million tons in 2012, while the exports are not expected to grow much, according to Thai Rubber Association.


The natural rubber production in country rose 5% from 3 million tons, mainly due to the produce from the North-Eastern regions.The Thai govenment had expanded the acreage of rubber in the Nortth-Eastern region in 2012 and the tree tooks took 7years to mature to contribute to the countries output..


According to Pongsak Kerdwongbundit, president of the Thai Rubber Association, the expansion of major tyre makers in the country is expected to increase the consumption so the rubber exports is expected to increase sightly to 2.8 million tons in 2012 from around 2.7 million tons in 2011, reported Reuters.


Meanwhile, the natural rubber production in india is estimated to increase to 902,000 tonnes during 2011-12, representing a 4.6% growth over last year.


At Tokyo Commodity Exchange (TOCOM), January contrat traded down 1.3% to 259.5 Yen and at India’s National Multi-Commodity Exchange (NMCE), the rubber for January Delivery traded at Rs 20,377 on Monday at 10:55 IST.
