MUMBAI (Commodity Online): Aggressive rainfalls during the end of monsoon, ensuing flood in the major summer sown crops fields are expected to hammer sugar crushing in India.

Water logging due to the unusual rainfall in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra have affected sugar crushing badly.

In Maharashtra and Karnataka sugar cane crushing usuall starts from the middle of October. But this year, it could be delayed by 10-15 days while in Andhra Pradesh, the rains will not make much of a difference as the state is having a very poor cane crop and in any case will not be crushing cane before November-end.

Similar trend was also seen in Maharashtra as the heavy rains affected sugar cane in Kolhapur in Maharashtra and also in parts of southern Karnataka.
