US Silver Eagle: Huge demand push Jan 2012 to post record sales figures
NEW YORK (Commodity Online): Sales of Silver Eagles are booming with January 2012 recording the second best sales figures since 1986 with over 6 million coins being sold, data from the US Mint shows.
January month sales were at 6,107,000 coins, just 315,000 away from the all time high of 6,422,000 sales posted in Jan 2011. These were the only two months when Silver Eagle sales crossed the 6 million mark.
A recent Barclays Capital Research estimated that global silver coin demand hit a record high of 3800 tonnes in 2011 while US demand hit 1240 tonnes
