Vietnam coffee prices hit record 13 year high
HANOI (Commodity Online) : Coffee prices hit a record 13 year high in Vietnam and crossed the 10,000 dong per kilogram mark , according to traders.
Domestic coffee prices have seen successive steep increases since early February. Coffee beans are now sold at 41,600 - 41,700 dong per kilogram in Central Highland provinces.
The rise in the price of coffee locally is due to the overall rise in the world market. Specifically, the coffee prices in the London market on February 14 went up to $2,239 per tonne, up $23 per tonne compared to the previous day and $54 per tonne against early in the month.
Coffee delivered at Ho Chi Minh ports also soared from $2,025 per tonne on February 1 to $2,080 per tonne on February 15.
Despite the already high prices, domestic coffee transactions are still low because coffee growers are waiting for the price to rise even further to sell their products.
