JAKARTA (Commodity Online): The rice production in Vietnam for 2012 is expected to remain steady at around 42 million tons of unhusked grain despite a delay caused by floods in the planting of the winter-spring crop, according to a government minister.
The rice output of Vietnam is said to ensure some supply and soften the food price in the midst of 50% drop in exports from Thailand’s on account of crop damages due to the recent floods.
According to Nguyen Tri Ngoc, Director, Ministry’s Crops Department, The delay in planting the winter-spring crop prompted Vietnam to cut its paddy output projection by 1.2 per cent next year to 41 million tons, reported reuters.
Vietnam had exported 6.89 million tonnes of rice till 15 of December 2011, up 6 per cent from a year earlier.
Meanwhile, India's rice ouput is expected to touch 102 million tons for 2011-12.
