Imported fruits and vegetables are growing in popularity in India

According to reports presented by Fresh Intelligence on data received from the Ministry of Commerce, the imports of fresh fruit in India reached record levels of around 721,493 tonnes in 2021. It is almost more than double compared to the previous year’s total import.

Consumers in India enjoy exotic fruits and vegetables like kiwis, olives, dragon fruit, mushrooms, and broccoli. The demand for such commodities is mostly from urban dwellers and star hotels and restaurants that have lately begun to develop a taste for them. On seeing the market potential, India has encouraged the import of these particular vegetables and fruits

Though India is the second largest producer of fruits and vegetables in the world, and Himachal Pradesh is famous for its avocados and Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu is noted for its lettuce just as is the case for many other agricultural products in India, the demand for imported fruits and vegetables is increasing day by day paving the path for more opportunities to the importers and traders.
