India is reported to have become one of the top countries in the world that have the largest area of land reserved for organic farming.
Based on reports by IFOAM -Organics International data the total increase in lands reserved for organic farming in India has reached 3,59,000 hectares, which has made the nation one of the top countries in the world with the most amount of area reserved for organic farming.
In 2020 the increase in global organic farming reached 3 million hectares among which Uruguay stood first with 5,89,000 hectares, while Argentina stood with 7,81,000 hectares and India with 3,59,000 hectares. Based on certain estimates there are around 34 lakh organic producers in the world and around 16 lakh farmers in India are involved in organic farming.
However, more efficient and supportive government policies are required to maintain the sustainability of organic farming in the country which is agricultural and normally tends to adapt to normal farming methods.
