Maharashtra Sugarcane acreage may rise by 25% in 2018-19

Haryana's Cotton production in 2017 is seen rising to 2.28 million bales from 2.04 million bales (1 bale = 170 kg) last year, the state agriculture department said in its first advance estimate of kharif output for the 2017 crop year.

Cotton acreage has risen 15% to 656,000 hectares this year, primarily because farmers shifted from other crops lured by the attractive returns the fibre offered in 2016-17 and also due to a rise in minimum support price.

Haryana is one of the major Cotton- and Guar- producing states in the northern part of the country.

The state's Guar production in the kharif season is estimated at 194,000 tonnes, down 22% on year. Haryana's total food grain production is seen at 4.96 million tonnes, down 10% from 2016-17.
