India exported 864028 tonnes of basmati rice worth $932 million during the first two months of 2019-20 financial year, rose 15.9% from 745405 tonnes ($819 million) in the corresponding period last year, according to latest data from the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).

The shipments of Non-basmati rice, however, fell to more than half the quantity exported last year. In 2018-19 India exported 1.52 million tonnes of non-basmati rice which has come down to 711837 tonnes in April-May 2019-20.

The realisation was also declined to $294 million in April-May 2019-20 from $652 million in the corresponding period last year.

India exported record 45 lakh tonnes of basmati last year earning a forex of over Rs 30,000 crore.
