India's retail inflation eased marginally in July to 3.15 per cent over the previous month despite costlier food items, according to the data released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

The retail inflation based on Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 3.18 per cent in June and 4.17 per cent in July 2018.

Inflation for the food and beverages segment stood at 2.36% in July as against 2.25% in the previous month. Inflation for the fuel and light was negative 0.36%.

Crude oil prices fell sharply in July amid worries over global growth and US-China trade war.
