Maize is a cereal grain. It also known as corn. Its scientific name is Zea Mays, belonging to the family Poaceae and sub family Panicoideae.

To get the benefit of rainy season, Maize is generally planted during spring season in the temperate zones, as the crop is very sensitive to drought. In India, Maize is planted during June-July and harvested during September-October.

Hybrid varieties of Maize are mainly grown in the US and Canada, as these are genetically modified to fight against natural pests. United States produces about 40 percent of global Maize.
