Heavy rains may adversely affect Urad, Moong crops In MP, UP
The key Pulses especially Urad growing areas in Indian states of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh received heavy rains recently which would adversely affect the Urad crop. The recently sown Urad seeds may be washed out due to heavy rains and the seeds which are in emergence/germination would also be damaged due to water logging in the fields.
Apart from Urad, Moong and Tur crop sown in the area would also be affected. The heavy rainfall is likely to continue till July 8, 2016 as per Met Department forecast; hence, damage to the crops would increase. The actual assessment of the damage would be known once the rainfall activity will be over.
Farmers may go for re-sowing to Urad as in some cases sowing extends till July end or else the fields would be diverted towards short duration crops especially Moong. The sowing of Pulses is significantly higher so far this year and among the Pulses, Urad cultivation is extremely good followed by Moong and Tur.
